Did you know God has a calling for each and everyone of you? Did you know that He is calling you right now?

God has called some of you and you have answered but have left your calling.

God’s calling is way more than just a calling to the ministry, just as Pastor has been talking about.

Some of you have forsaken God’s calling on your life, and hopefully today you will leave with a fresh fire to serve God through His calling on your life.

God is calling you the question is WILL YOU ANSWER?

Introduce Story
Saul disobeyed God so Samuel was told there was going to be a new King.

Read 1 Samuel 16:1-7

Samuel is pretty upset that God had rejected Saul as the King.

God sends him out to go to the house of Jesse to anoint the new king.
**Have 7 guys come up

One by one Jesse brings his sons out, probably from the oldest down (custom)

Samuel did as we would do he looked for the oldest strongest boy.

But you see God had already made up his mind about who He wanted to be king

I want you to notice a couple things from this story

I. God picked David (NIV chose) vs.1

Before Samuel knew it, God had already made His mind up.

David was the…

A. Unlikely choice
a. He was the smallest
b. He was the youngest
c. He was just a Shepherd boy

ILL- getting picked last for kick ball, I imagine that would be how David felt

Maybe you feel like the unlikely choice. Maybe you feel like God would never pick you.

You may not see what you have to offer, because you are looking at the outside, BUT GOD looks at the heart. VS 7

GOD SEES IN YOU WHAT YOU CAN BE, NOT JUST WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE!

Saul would have been the people’s choice and he was the people’s choice, but looked how he ended up.

He disobeyed God, spent the last couple years of his life chasing after God’s man to kill him and eventually took his own life.

B. Unworthy choice

David hade done nothing to be considered worthy to be chosen to be king, but it wasn’t about his worthiness, I SAID IT WASN’T ABOUT HIS WORTHINESS, It was about God making him and seeing him worthy

All of us are unworthy, but God has still picked/chosen us to do great things for Him.

Though David was the Unlikely Choice, and the Unworthy Choice,

C. Ultimate Choice

David would become the greatest earthly King Israel would ever know.

God has made you the Ultimate Choice also by paying the Ultimate Price for you.

Least Greatest

God can take you and make you something great.

II. God’s plan for David vs. 1

vs. 1 to be King

God had great plans for David.

Just as He has great plans for me and great plans for you.
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”

God’s plan for you started before you were even born.

Are you following God’s plan? Do you even know God’s plan?

Lastly let’s look at…

III. God’s POWER through David vs. 13

“from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in POWER.”

New Living Translation “came mightily”

God used David in a mighty way throughout his life.

What is a major story from David’s life that almost everyone knows? (David and Goliath)

Just as David had God’s power, SO DO YOU!

Acts 1:8
“But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you…”

Are you tapping into God’s POWER?

God has PICKED you!

God has a PLAN for you!

God wants to demonstrate His POWER through you!

But you must answer His call.

What is God calling you to do?

To begin a relationship with Him
To come back to Him
To do something specific for Him

Whatever He is calling you to do, ANSWER, and you will never regret it.
